The Tropical Garden Excursion is a combination between Paramo and the Andean foothills at the beautiful colonial Village of Altamira, with its jungle vegetation. In this excursion we will be in the following vegetations! such as: Paramo, dwarf forest, subtropical cloud forest and tropical mountain rain forest. All these kinds of vegetations and the flora and fauna of each one will be explained by our expert guides.

1. Day: We will drive the transandina road through the colonial villages all the way to the Venezuelan highlands. At the Sierra Nevada National Park, we make a 3 hour- hike tour from Laguna Mucubaji to Laguna Negra. The vegetation in the Paramo is full of “frailejones” (espiletia) mosses and liken. After lunch we will drive to Mifafi, in the National Park Sierra la Culata, which is the breeding station where was introduced the Andean Condor (Volturos Gryphus) again. At 4007 m we will be at the highest pass of Venezuela, the Pico El Aguila.

Then, we will drive down all the outside wall of the Andes until we arrive to the colonial village of Altamira which is at 800m in a nice and warm surrounding area. We will stay in an old, comfortable and colonial guesthouse with huge rooms. Our Posada Caceres and Posada Casa Vieja Altamira

2. Day: After breakfast we will visit the coffee plantation called “Doña Carmen” and a traditional sugar cane fabric. Then we will drive the beautiful mountain road to Calderas. At Piedra del Patio we start our hike. The first part of the hike in paradise, goes through a tropical garden, full of cacao, mango, orange and lemon trees, papayas, bananas, “mamones”, etc.. Then we will get in the jungle vegetation, where we besides orchids and bromelias (Pinguin) also can be found red howler monkeys, parrots, macaws and toucans. Our destination is the waterfall “Cascada de las Monjas” and the caves of calderas. In the crystal clear rivers we have the possibility to take a refreshing bath. In the late afternoon we will drive back to Mèrida
